Every year on Thanksgivings past, thousands of people line up at a 5k starting line and wait to take off. However, 2020 is different, and most of those 5ks won’t be happening this year. Just because the events are canceled, doesn’t mean you can’t safely keep the tradition alive with your own immediate family or even solo. There are a few easy ways that you can create your very own turkey trot. Time to get a running start on your holiday!
This one may sound obvious, but for most people, just getting started may be the most difficult step when it comes to getting active. Therefore, you shouldn’t think about it too much when you decide you want to start running. While you can read all the tips out there, what’s most important is getting out there and getting started. Once you do that, you will realize how easy it can be.
Walk and Run
If you’re not in great shape when you get started running, it may be pretty difficult at first. That’s totally okay. It’s just a period you have to push through before you can start feeling comfortable running the whole time. Until then, don’t be afraid to take breaks and walk every now and then. Whenever you feel like you can’t keep pushing, slow it down, and start walking instead. When you regain your breath, you can start running again. Don’t worry about walking more than running when you’re first getting started. You’ve got this!
Explore New Spots
Getting on a treadmill at the gym may be efficient, but it’s not exactly the most pleasant way to go for a run. If you want to do something that’s going to be a bit more enjoyable, go outside and explore your neighborhood. If you don’t usually walk or run, this is a great time to check it out. But if you’re already pretty familiar with your neighborhood, you could visit a park or local track.
