Sushi is one of those foods that can taste downright addictive. You may want to eat it for every meal of the week. But there’s only one problem; it’s pretty expensive when you buy it from a restaurant. You’re eating fresh fish, after all. And a lot of people don’t feel very comfortable making sushi at home. But what most people don’t know is that it’s actually a lot easier than it may seem to make delicious sushi. Just keep an open mind, have a spirit of adventure, and get in the kitchen to start cooking. You may be amazed at what you can come up with!
- 6 sheets sushi seaweed
- 1 batch prepared sushi rice
- 1/2-pound sushi-grade raw salmon or desired raw fish of choice
- 4 ounces cream cheese sliced into strips
- 1 avocado, sliced
- soy sauce for serving

This is going to be easier than you might think. First of all, start with placing a layer of seaweed on your bamboo sushi mat. Then evenly cover the seaweed with the prepared rice. (Remember, you’ve already cooked this rice before making your sushi roll.)
Next, you’re going to layer your ingredients onto the roll, including the salmon, the cucumber, and the cream cheese. When you’ve spread it out evenly, roll up your sushi, using the mat for assistance.
Slice your sushi roll with a super-sharp knife, and serve it with soy sauce. If you have wasabi or ponzu sauce on hand, you may want to serve it with that as well.
Of course, remember that you can get as creative as you want with your sushi. There are so many different fillings you can experiment with, so don’t be afraid to go off the rails and try something totally new.
