Golf is both a mental and physical game, making it ideal for athletes looking for a sport they can play their whole life through. It also allows for more socialization than many other sports as you walk the courses, practices at the driving range, and kick back at the clubhouses after a game. Tuscaloosa golf enthusiasts are in luck, because the Ol’ Colony golf course is ranked the “Best Public Course In Alabama” as well as one of the “Top 50 In The USA” by Golf Week.
Ol’ Colony Golf Complex
Ol’ Colony is an 18-hole course designed by Jerry Pate with 25 acres of lakes that come into play on several different holes. In addition to the beautiful course, you can stop into the pro shop for all of your equipment needs, including a variety of golf balls, gloves, shoes, clubs, Ol’Colony and Collegiate apparel, and more. You can have clubs fitted at the pro shop to make sure you’re getting the most out of your game.
Ol’ Colony is a First Tee facility, an organization that encourages kids to take up the great sport of golf. The Brion Hardin First Tee Teaching Facility is housed at Ol’ Colony and is equipped with a Trackman Launch Monitor, V1 Pro Software, and Explaner Plane system among other technologies to aid in teaching the sport to children.

About First Tee
First Tee began in 1997 with the question, “why don’t more kids play golf?” To answer that question, a partnership was formed between the LGPA, the Masters Tournament, the PGA of America, the PGA TOUR, and the USGA. Since 1997, First Tee has been able to expand its network to bring youth golf programs to all 50 states and several international locations as well. The organization promotes the life-long values of safety, character building, and health through golf.
First Tee works with nine core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. With these values in mind, First Tee educators teach children the enriching sport of golf.
The Tuscaloosa Chapter of First Tee was established in 2000 when Ol’ Colony was opened. The program was relatively unknown for the first few years, but by 2009 the First Tee curriculum was implemented in PE classes across all 13 Tuscaloosa elementary schools.
Ol’ Colony is open seven days a week year-round with seasonal hours. Give them a call today to set up your next tee time!
